We were at a conference last year.
Big room. Big stage. Big promises.
We were sitting at lunch next to one of the headline speakers.
The kind of guy with the sizzle reel.
The walk-on music.
The perfectly rehearsed slides.
So we asked him a simple question, “How many deals have you actually closed from the strategy you’re teaching today?”
He looked at me.
"Well you know... This is a relationship business"
We replied, "No no, how many closed deals"
To our surprise he said,
“None.”
I thought maybe he misunderstood.
“How many closings?”
“None.”
Zero. Not one. Not even by accident.
And here’s the part that made my jaw tighten. The room was full of agents scribbling notes like he’d just handed down the Ten Commandments of Real Estate.
Let me tell you what’s really going on.
You’re being told to become TikTok famous.
Post three times a day.
Shoot reels.
Build your brand.
Build a website.
Dance.
Point at captions.
Chase views.
Can Instagram work?
Sure.
So can cold calling expireds for 8 hours a day.
But here’s the real question no one wants to ask. How many months of zero income can you survive while you “build momentum”?

The moment it senses pressure, loss of control, manipulation, or even subtle social danger, it sounds the alarm.
When that alarm goes off, stress hormones flood the body.
Cortisol rises.
Adrenaline spikes.
Blood flow shifts away from the prefrontal cortex, the part responsible for logic, trust, and decision making, and moves toward the systems built for fight or flight.
In plain English, the smarter part of their brain goes offline.
Now they are not evaluating your offer.
They are evaluating you as a potential threat and you don't even notice this happening because you are caught up in your script or what seems to be a "great conversation", which turns into a follow up.
Because once someone feels threatened, they stop listening, start defending, and look for the nearest exit.
That’s the survival switch.
Trust disappears.
Walls go up.
